CHICAGO -- David Bailey's 23 points helped Loyola of Chicago overcome poor shooting as it beat Cleveland State 69-57 in the first-round of the Horizon League Tournament on Tuesday night.
The win advanced the Ramblers (16-15) to the second round on Friday, where they will face Detroit.
The Ramblers were cold in the first half, making just 10-of-34 from the field and missing all 11 3-point attempts. But with the Rambler's fierceness at the boards coupled with Cleveland State's (8-22) own poor shooting, Loyola ended the half with a 25-21 lead.
After Tahric Gosley of Cleveland State scored with 14:49 left in the game to tie the score at 34, Loyola went on a 10-0 scoring run.
Corey Minnifield hit a short jumper and Bailey drove for three lay-ups in a row and made a pair of free throws to put the Ramblers ahead 44-34.
Cleveland State never came closer than seven points after that.
Tahric Gosley led Cleveland State with 16 points.
