Closed for bridge repair
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Route 58 (Kinsman Road) from state Route 4001, North Summit Road, to the Ohio state line will be closed to traffic starting at 7 a.m. Monday.
Local traffic will be permitted up to the work area. A detour is posted. The road is expected to be closed for about three weeks. Crews will be doing bridge repair. The expected reopening is June 27.
Wreck kills motorcyclist
VIENNA -- A Boardman man was killed in a motorcycle accident off Warren-Sharon Road before 4:30 a.m. Saturday. The motorcycle was heading west before veering off the road, hitting a ditch and crashing through the fence in front of a house between Sodom-Hutchings and Warren roads, Ohio State Highway Patrol reports say.
The accident was discovered when the homeowner arrived home at 5:30 a.m.
The patrol is withholding the name of the victim pending notification of his family. He was wearing a helmet.
Payment on machine
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Jameson Junior Guild recently handed over the guild's fourth payment of $275,000 to the Jameson Health System for a new linear accelerator, a machine that delivers cancer-fighting radiation doses.
The guild has pledged to raise a $1.4 million for the new machine and already has donated just more than $800,000 toward its purchase. Proceeds from gift and food sales at the hospital's Hostess Shop provide most of the money the guild earns each year.
Tours of Lake Arthur
PORTERSVILLE, Pa. -- Guided tours of Lake Arthur aboard the Nautical Nature, a fully enclosed pontoon boat, are being offered. The boat can seat up to 50 people and is accessible to those with disabilities.
Public cruises go out at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays and 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Sundays. The cost is $5.25 for adults; $2.50 for children.
