Police investigate vehicle burnings

FARRELL, Pa. -- Southwest Mercer County Regional Police are investigating a pair of vehicle arsons along Roemer Boulevard.
The fires were discovered early Wednesday, and there were two failed attempts to burn other cars, authorities said.
Police and firefighters were first called to a parking lot in the 300 block of Roemer around 12:45 a.m. and found a vehicle on fire. The blaze also damaged a second vehicle parked next to the burning vehicle, police said.
Two hours later, police and firefighters were called to a vehicle fire in a parking lot in the 700 block of Roemer. That fire also damaged a second vehicle parked next to the burning car, police said.
Fire Chief Joseph Santell said investigators later learned that there were two other attempts at burning vehicles in that same lot in the 700 block of Roemer. Someone put paper in the front seats of both vehicles and ignited it, Santell said; the fires damaged the seats but burned themselves out before authorities could spot them. They were discovered later by investigators, he said.
A state police fire marshal has been called in to aid in the investigation, Santell said.
