Man faces drug charges
AUSTINTOWN -- Police said a Columbus man spit on the inside of a police car several times after he was arrested on a traffic stop early Wednesday on North Meridian Road.
Michael Hudak, 23, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Hudak drove through a red light on Connecticut Avenue and hit a pile of snow before he was stopped at about 4:30 a.m.
A suspected marijuana pipe and unidentified pills were found by police in the car Hudak was driving. Police also are planning to charge Hudak with possession of dangerous drugs.
Reports state that Hudak told Austintown police they couldn't arrest him because he was in Youngstown. He was taken to the police station.
Once at the station, Hudak "became very uncooperative and started to spit all over the place," reports state. Police also found that Hudak had spit on the dashboard, computer and window of the police car that had taken him to the station.
AUSTINTOWN -- A North Raccoon Road woman, 33, told police she woke up around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in her bedroom and found a man lying on top of her.
The man was her estranged husband, 40, of North Beverly Avenue, whom she has not lived with for several months, she said.
The woman screamed, and he ran out of the house.
Police are unsure how the man got into the house.
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that a man tried to enter the apartment of a Woodhurst Drive woman late Tuesday while she was sleeping.
The woman said she woke up and heard someone trying to open her door and knocking on her bedroom window around 10:20 p.m. She looked out the window and saw one of her friends, a 32-year-old Warren man. The man asked to come inside.
When the woman said no, the man broke the window and left.
CANFIELD -- Police are investigating what they call the "unusual" death Wednesday of a Kings Lane woman.
Sara Coberly, 59, was found dead at around 12:40 p.m. on a bed in an upstairs bedroom at her home. Three men were at the home at the time, including Coberly's husband and brother.
Mahoning County coroner's investigators also were called to the home. Reports do not include any information about a possible cause.
CANFIELD -- Police are considering a child endangerment charge against a Canton man after he was accused of drunken driving with his young son in the car early Wednesday.
Frank James, 52, of 5th Street N.E., is charged with driving under the influence, driving under suspension and failing to stay within marked traffic lanes.
He also is wanted in Stark County on a charge of felony aggravated robbery.
Police said James was driving a car that weaved over the center line around 3:45 a.m. on West Main Street. His son was in a car seat in the back of the car, and his wife was in the passenger seat. Reports do not list the age of his son.
Tests showed that James had a blood alcohol level of 0.22. The legal limit is 0.10. Reports state that James told police he had consumed two 40-ounce bottles of beer "within the past 45-50 minutes."
