Mexican restaurant closes; 50 lose jobs

Published: Sun, February 23, 2003 @ 12:00 a.m.

BOARDMAN -- Don Pablo's Mexican Kitchen at 6671 South Ave. has closed, idling about 50 full- and part-time employees. An employee answering the telephone this morning said the restaurant closed its doors Thursday but referred other questions to the company's corporate office.

An Avado Brands spokeswoman did not return a call requesting comment.

The Don Pablo's chain is owned by Avado Brands in Atlanta, a publicly owned company that operates 120 Don Pablo's and 66 Hops Restaurants. Avado is divesting itself of another restaurant brand, Canyon Cafe, having sold seven of that chain's restaurants last year and with four others up for sale.
