YSU closing forces concert cancellation
YOUNGSTOWN -- The closing of Youngstown State University on Monday because of a winter storm led to cancellation of the first of two local performances by the Grammy-nominated Dave Holland Quintet.
Holland and his band were to play at 8 p.m. Monday in Edward W. Powers Auditorium as part of the Leonardi Legacy Concert series.
Another concert is scheduled at 8 p.m. Wednesday, also in Powers. That performance will feature Holland's quintet on its own for part of the evening and with YSU Jazz Ensemble students for the remainder of the show.
Michelle Lepore Hagan, director of the Performing Arts Series at YSU's College of Fine and Performing Arts, said $50 and $30 seats will be honored Wednesday as marked. People who bought those tickets also will be admitted to a post-concert cocktail party at Chrystal's Restaurant, 1931 Belmont Ave.
Tickets that were sold for $5 and $10 will be treated as general admission tickets, Lepore Hagan said.
At the door, general admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for students. Some $50 and $30 tickets are still available, she said. Tickets are being sold at the Powers box office.
The series is named for the late Tony Leonardi, a founder of YSU's acclaimed jazz studies program. He, like Holland, played jazz bass.
