COLLEGE HOOPS Geneva has 17th triumph

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Geneva College basketball team ended its American Mideast Conference North schedule Thursday with a 64-57 victory over Houghton College.
Geneva will finish in second place if St. Vincent beats Daemen in the conference finale Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will play host to an opening round playoff game on Feb. 25 against an opponent to be determined.
Tim Sawyer scored a career-high 18 points to lead Geneva (17-10, 9-3), while Terrance Ward added 14, Chad Mraz 13 and Stefan Grundberg 10.
Adam Zoeller led Houghton (6-18, 2-9) with 20 points, 17 of which came in the first half.
Walsh 66, Malone 56
CANTON -- Walsh defeated Malone for the ninth consecutive time in the 39th Mayor's Cup game. Jason Hamilton scored Walsh's (14-10) first nine points had 15 in the first half. He finished with a game-high 28 points J.R. Ogletree scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half.
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva rebounded from a loss Tuesday to St. Vincent College to defeat Houghton 64-49 in an AMC North game.
Geneva (15-12, 8-8) is battling Carlow and Seton Hill for the fifth and final playoff spot. Jen Rawding led Geneva with 16 points, while Ali Cananzi added 14 points, Crystal Wiley 13 and Renee Freeman 12.
Alicia Mucher and Casandra Mills each scored 13 points for Houghton (14-9, 11-5).
