Akron's James is a finalist for Naismith Player of Year


ATLANTA (AP) -- LeBron James heads a list of 10 male finalists for the Altanta Tipoff Club's Naismith Prep Basketball Player of the Year awards.
Also included were two players from the same team: Luol Deng and Charlie Villanueva of Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J.
Ten girls also were nominated for the female Naismith Award.
The finalists were selected by a committee of leading coaches, journalists and administrators. The two winners will be honored at an April 11 ceremony in Atlanta.
Other male finalists are Shannon Brown, Proviso East, Maywood, Ill.; Brian Butch, West, Appleton, Wis.; Ndudi Ebi, Westbury Christian, Houston; Kris Humphries, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Minn.; David Padgett, Reno, Nev.; Kendrick Perkins, Ozen, Beaumont, Texas; and Mustafa Shakur, Friends Central, Wynnewood, Pa.
The female nominees are Alison Bales, Beavercreek; Jessica Davenport, Independence; Lauren Ervin, Inglewood, Calif.; Alexis Hornbuckle, Capital, Charleston, W.Va.; Natasha Humphrey, Gainesville, Ga.; Brittany Hunter, Brookhaven, Columbus; Tiffany Jackson, Duncanville, Dallas; Candace Parker, Naperville Central, Ill.; Noelle Quinn, Bishop Montgomery, Torrance, Calif.; and Dorian Williams, Jean Ribault, Jacksonville, Fla.
