Sharpsville will have the right to pursue consolidation or acquisition of police services with a neighboring municipality under terms of a new police contract approved Wednesday.
General: The Fraternal Order of Police approved the consolidation clause in return for a guarantee that all full-time officers be guaranteed a position with a consolidated force or a department that is hired to provide services to Sharpsville.
Contract length: Three years, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2003.
Wage increase: $1,500 annually with base pay set at $35,855 this year, $37,355 in 2004 and $38,855 in 2005.
Officers affected: Six.
Signing bonus: $300.
Shift differential: Increased 25 cents per hour to 65 cents for afternoon and 75 cents for midnight turns. Senior officer pay increases 25 cents per hour to 75 cents.
Clothing allowance: Remains at $500 per year, but officers will be allowed to carry over up to $500 per year to a maximum of $1,000 per year.
Paid holidays: Two additional days, Martin Luther King Day and New Year's Eve.
Vacation: An additional three or four days per year, based on an officer's years of service, up to a maximum of 30 days.
Insurance: Officers who have other health insurance and opt out of the borough's hospitalization coverage will be given 50 percent of the cost savings on a monthly basis.
Part-timers: The borough will be able to use part-time officers to fill in on any full-time officer vacation time.
