Walter Duzzny, Mahoning County emergency management director, recommends that an emergency "go bag" with a name tag be prepared for each person in the household, containing the following items for up to a 72-hour stay in a shelter:
Adequate clothing for the season.
Personal hygiene items, such as a comb, toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, washcloth and towel.
Medications, especially prescription medications.
Flashlight and batteries.
Battery operated radio.
Two quarts of water.
Nonperishable foods, such as snack bars or wafer bars.
Sleeping bag and blankets.
Writing material, a book, and small games for children.
List of family phone numbers.
