Esparras mark golden jubilee at Mass, dinner

XCAMPBELL -- Mr. and Mrs. Porfirio Esparra of 650 Penhale Ave. were honored Jan. 11 at a Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in Coitsville and dinner reception at Our Lady of Mount Carmel hall in Youngstown on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Hosts for the celebration were the couple's children, Rosa Buchanan of Vermilion; Porfirio Esparra Jr. of Youngstown; Leticia Gonzalez of Campbell; Diana Parry of Youngstown; Elsa Garcia of Navarre, Fla.; Reynaldo Esparra of Boardman; Lydia Truhan of Strongsville; Minerva Saver of Yonkers, N.Y.; Anabel Collins of Poland; and Lilian Maddox of Stow, and their spouses. Their family also includes 29 grandchildren.
Mr. Esparra and the former Eufemia Vazquez were married Jan. 9, 1953, at St. John the Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 and retired in 1980 from LTV Steel Corp. in Youngstown, where he was a soaking-pit craneman. He is a member of the Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana and the Sons of Borinquen.
His wife retired in 1990 from Ohio State University in Columbus where she was a nutrition educator.
The couple belong to St. Rose of Lima Church.
