Springfield Township trustees also handled these matters Wednesday:
Heard a report from Fire Chief Brian Highes that the fire department will receive reimbursement for 11 sets of gear ruined when it assisted in a recent chemical fire in Poland. The township's insurance company has indicated it will pay $56,000, and the township will have to pay a $500 deductible.
Approved Roderick Hostetler and Joanna Little as new fire-department members.
Hired Adam Treharne as a part-time police officer.
Announced that the township has received a $22,336 grant from the Mahoning County Solid Waste District to install fencing for the township's four cemeteries when the weather breaks.
Announced that petitions are available at the Petersburg Post Office and at Knesal Hardware in Petersburg urging passage of a bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, D-6th, which would provide money for a sewer project in Petersburg.
