Canfield man is held in loitering case

Published: Wed, February 12, 2003 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County deputy sheriffs arrested George J. Stevens at his Canfield home Sunday night for his failure to appear in municipal court Friday on a charge of loitering to engage in solicitation.

Stevens, 57, of Jamison Place, is a part-time consultant at Choffin Career and Technical Center, according to Mike McNair, school district spokesman.

Members of the vice squad issued a citation to Stevens on the lower South Side on Thursday night after a woman who has been convicted 11 times on charges of loitering to engage in solicitation flagged him down and then got in his car.

Stevens, who spent the night in jail, was due in municipal court today for arraignment.
