Man collapses, dies after fire; another admitted to hospital

HOWLAND -- A man died after a structure fire at 3140 Valacamp Ave. S.E. Saturday morning.
Four people were taken to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where one man died after he collapsed, apparently from a heart attack, said Howland Fire Chief George Brown.
The department would not release the name of the deceased, and hospital officials said they wouldn't without the approval of the county coroner. The coroner did not return calls Saturday night.
Two victims left the hospital against medical advice, Brown said. Samuel Marshal, 21, was admitted and in stable condition.
Brown said the 4:11 a.m. fire destroyed the home and was caused by an electric heater.
Firefighters responding reported flames coming from the front and roof. All occupants had escaped, with one suffering severe lacerations.
The Howland department received assistance from Bazetta, Weathersfield and Warren Township fire departments.
