Head-on crash gravely hurts teenager from Greenville

Published: Mon, February 10, 2003 @ 12:00 a.m.

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- A 17-year-old boy was in serious condition Saturday at Hamot Medical Center in Erie after a head-on collision on Clarksville Street at 8:36 a.m.

Greenville police officer Paul Molton said Justin Stafford, of Greenville, was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck north when the vehicle crossed the center line, striking a southbound Chevrolet van.

Molton said the teen suffered head and chest injuries and was flown by helicopter to the medical center.

The driver of the van, Donald McKnight, 35, of Jamestown, Pa., was taken by ambulance to UPMC Horizon in Greenville and later released. Molton said he had complained of neck and back pain.

Preliminary investigations indicate the teen was leaning toward the passenger side of the truck when it crossed the center line, Molton said.
