Published: Mon, February 10, 2003 @ 12:00 a.m.

Eryck Fletcher, 10, above left, and Faybeon Stewart, 12, both of Youngstown, play African flutes they bought at the African Marketplace at Youngstown State University's Kilcawley Center. The marketplace, part of the university's Black History Month celebration, was modeled after a traditional African market and featured art, jewelry and writing. The Vindicator was a sponsor. At far right, Dwayne Muhammad of Akron displays masks and other African items. Muhammad said he's traveled to Ghana, Mali and other African countries. Right, Theresa Anderson of Niles prepares to sell a basket made from a cocoa palm tree.
