HORIZON/MAC Ill.-Chicago beats Wright St.; Akron knocks off Toledo
The Flames climbed to 9-2 in the Horizon League.
CHICAGO -- Cedric Banks scored 23 points as Illinois-Chicago beat Wright State 77-62 Wednesday night.
Illinois-Chicago (15-5, 9-2 Horizon League) held a 34-31 lead at the half, but pulled away hitting 15-of-25 from the field in the second half. Wright State (8-12, 2-8) shot 10-of-36.
The Flames got help on offense from Armond Williams with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jonathan Schneiderman scored 10 points and Martell Bailey had 9 points and 8 assists.
The Flames were 21-of-29 from the foul line while Wright State was 9-of-13.
Wright State was led by Seth Doliboa with 26 points, and Trent Vaughn added 11.
Akron 78, Toledo 67
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Darryl Peterson, Andy Hipsher and John Hollingsworth each scored 15 points to lead Akron (10-9, 5-5 Mid-American Conference).
Nick Moore finished with 15 points and Keith Triplett had 14 to lead the Rockets (9-10, 3-6), who were just 5-for-21 from 3-point range and attempted only eight free throws.
Nick Meyers and Derrick Tarver each scored 12 points for the Zips.
W. Michigan 79, Marshall 75
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Anthony Kann scored a career-high 30 points as Western Michigan overcame an 11-point deficit.
Western's (13-6, 5-5 MAC) Rickey Willis also hit a career high 10 points, all of them in the last four minutes.
Ronald Blackshear scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half for Marshall (9-10, 5-6), which had led 42-31.
