Arrest expected in kidnap, robbery case
NILES -- Columbus police are expected to arrest a man wanted here on felony kidnapping and robbery charges, Niles authorities say.
Municipal court issued the warrants this week for Michael Robinson, no age available, who is staying in Columbus, said Niles Detective Jim Robbins. He also is wanted on a misdemeanor assault charge.
Robinson is accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend as she tried to leave work last month.
Police reports say the 24-year-old Youngstown woman was leaving Autumn Hills Care Center on Niles-Vienna Road at 3 p.m. Jan. 9 when Robinson forced her into his car.
Once the woman was in the vehicle, Robinson hit her in the face and chest, then took her diamond ring and house keys, according to reports.
The ring is valued at $1,000.
Robinson then drove the woman to Youngstown, where she was able to get away, though police reports do not elaborate on how she escaped.
Robinson is to be returned to Niles to face the charges.
