OUTSIDE CONTRACTOR: Ken Tauer, a technician for United Space Alliance, inspected the flow line on the space shuttle Columbia after the engines were removed at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla., on July 1, 2002. As investigators piece together a cause for the space shuttle explosion last week, contractors and subcontractors hired to maintain the fleet are under the spotlight once again.
