Unemployment risesto 4.8% in Mercer Co.
SHARON, Pa. -- The unemployment rate in Mercer County rose from 4.1 percent in November to 4.8 percent in December. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry said much of the job loss resulted from seasonal cutbacks in construction and mining as well as goods-producing jobs. Service jobs remained steady.
The number of people working in Mercer County dropped from 55,500 to 54,900, and the number seeking jobs rose from 2,400 to 2,700.
Electrical co-opswill be discussed
AUSTINTOWN -- Eastgate Regional Council of Governments will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. today at its office at 5121 Mahoning Ave. on creating electrical co-ops to cut electricity costs. David Hughes, director of Citizen Power of Pittsburgh, will speak. Government officials and the public are invited.
