MAC/TAC Canfield's defeat gives Poland title
Liberty and Hubbard posted impressive Trumbull Athletic Conference wins.
CANFIELD -- Dan Jones scored 23 points and Niles withstood a late Canfield charge Tuesday to register a 56-50 win in the Metro Athletic Conference.
With the loss by the Cardinals (8-8, 5-3), idle Poland (15-0, 8-0) wrapped up the MAC championship for the second straight year.
Niles (7-8, 3-5) scored the final nine points of the first half to tie the game at 25-all at the break.
Tim Rupert also scored 13 points and Jared Sears had 11 for Niles.
Frank Turocy led the Cardinals with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Chad Baker and Matt Sonnett each had 10 points for Canfield.
Howland 51, Salem 42
SALEM -- The Tigers (9-7, 5-3 MAC) put the game away with a 15-10 spurt in the final quarter.
Justin Byler sparked the Tigers with 17 points. Scott Day added 15. Jeff Proctor and Ryan Johnson had seven rebounds apiece.
The Quakers (3-13, 1-8) were paced by Landon Heath and T.J. DeCrow each with nine points.
Warren JFK 58, Struthers 47
STRUTHERS -- The Eagles broke the game open with a 14-9 third-quarter advantage and had three players in double figures.
Keith Black scored 16 points, Chris Shaker had 12 and Colin Clemente 11 for JFK. Luke Vincer grabbed eight rebounds for the Eagles and Black handed out seven assists.
Shaun Hall scored 13 points for Struthers (4-11), while Jim Franceschelli added 10. Mike Duponty and D.J. Aldish each had six rebounds for the Wildcats. Toby Ellis had four assists.
Liberty 67, Badger 47
KINSMAN -- Bradley Fletcher went on a 32-point scoring spree as Liberty (9-6, 7-5) turned back Badger in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Tyler Romine led Badger (3-13, 2-10) with 16 points.
Hubbard 61, Girard 44
GIRARD -- Todd Coonce, Dave McKee and Jeff Jablonski scored 16, 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Eagles (7-8, 4-8 TAC).
Jared Archer hit for 10 points for the Indians (2-14, 2-11).
