"Guide to Surviving Life " by Myron J. Kukla (Lockport Press, $12.95)
BOARDMAN -- Youngstown native and author Myron J. Kukla will be appearing at Barnes & amp; Noble Booksellers, 381 Boardman-Poland Road, at 7 p.m. Thursday to sign copies of his latest book, "Guide to Surviving Life."
The book is a collection many of Kukla's columns that originally appeared in The Lakeshore/Grand Rapids Press in Michigan.
Kukla, born in Youngstown in 1948 and a 1966 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, confesses in the introduction that this piece isn't "really a guide to surviving life ... It is a guide to show you how to laugh at life and the things in life that make it so stressful."
The book truly is an amusing amble down memory lane for readers as in 10 chapters Kukla's witty adventures -- and misadventures -- gently let you know that you're not in life alone.
Been there, done that
There are others who have dealt with similar problems, whether it be fad diets, self-help tomes, killer bees, jobs, deck building, class reunions, family vacations, school, the holidays, rearing kids, etc.
Kukla's keen sense of humor makes for easy reading, although the book could have used a little more proofreading. Overall, it's a delightful collection that takes an honest look at life in all its wonders peppered with a generous amount of funny foibles to keep things interesting.
