Annual car cruise to benefit local boy

Published: Wed, September 25, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

AUSTINTOWN -- The fourth annual Joshua Walker car cruise will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Ministries, 6512 Kirk Road.

The event will feature door prizes, trophies, entertainment, a raffle, bake sale, auction and hay rides. People do not need cars to attend the event. The event is open to motorcycles.

The car cruise will benefit the family of Joshua Walker, 5, of Austintown. Joshua has Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, a genetic disease that causes low muscle tone, blindness, muscle spasms, cramps, seizures, impaired swallowing and paralysis.

There is no cure for the disease, which affects one out of every 10,000 children. Joshua uses a wheelchair and is fed through a tube.

Donations to help Joshua's family pay their medical expenses can be made to the Joshua Walker Benefit Fund account at Metropolitan National Bank.
