Ridge routs Reserve; J-M claims first victory

United handed Leetonia its first loss of the season.

MINERAL RIDGE -- Chris Ault completed 16 of 23 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns Friday as Mineral Ridge defeated Western Reserve, 44-18.

Ault hit Greg Dominic for a 48-yard score, Dave Gillie for a 5-yard touchdown and Timmy Pursin for a 24-yard tally for the Rams (4-1, 2-0 Inter-County League). Dominic caught two passes for 69 yards.

Jeff Scott rushed for 76 yards on nine carries, including a 5-yard touchdown.

Kyle Trimble led the Western Reserve (2-3, 0-2) offense by passing for 96 yards by completing five of 11 tosses. He also scored on a 15-yard run.

Jackson-Milton 20, McDonald 7

McDONALD -- Jackson-Milton came from behind in the second half to record its first win of the season

Adam Keck of the Bluejays rushed for 159 yards on 19 carries and he scored on runs of 56 and 54 yards. He also caught a 15-yard TD pass from Zack Nicholas.

The Bluejays (1-4, 1-0 ICL) rushed for 194 yards and added 86 passing.

Greg Gustovich scored on a 12-yard run and Hans Odegaard made a place kick to give McDonald a 7-6 lead at halftime.

Gustovich rushed 12 times for 29 yards for McDonald (1-4, 0-1).

United 21, Leetonia 20

HANOVERTON -- Mitch Phillis completed 17 of 30 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns as United defeated Leetonia.

Phillis connected with Nick Johnson on an 80-yard scoring toss for the Eagles (4-1, 1-1 Tri-County League). Johnson led United's rushing attack with 71 yards on 16 carries.

Corey Manfull caught scoring passes of 33 and 35 yards and led the Eagles with 124 yards on eight catches.

Leetonia (4-1, 1-1) quarterback Matt Custer completed 9-of-16 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Freddie Gray caught touchdown passes covering 38 and 79 yards. He caught four passes for 141 yards.

East Palestine 48, Sebring 6

EAST PALESTINE -- Three seniors had the bulk of the yardage as the Bulldogs rolled up 508 total yards to notch their second straight Tri-County League victory.

East Palestine (4-1, 2-0) had 324 yards on the ground and 184 in the air.

J.D. Powers, a fullback, ran 23 times for 194 yards while quarterback Smitty Kendrew completed 12 of 19 passes for 145 yards. Wide receiver Pat Brennen had seven catches for 104 yards.

Powers scored three times on runs while Brennen caught one touchdown pass from Kendrew and one from Andrew Reeves. Kendrew also ran for a 5-yard touchdown aand Mitch Cyrus added a 1-yard score for the game's final TD.

Sebring (0-5, 0-2) managed 119 yards and got its lone score from Ryan Burd on a 2-yard run.

Southern 34, Crestview 30
