McDONALD -- Workers are on the job while contract talks continue with the 14 nonteaching employees of McDonald Local Schools.
Another negotiation session is scheduled with school board and union representatives for Wednesday, treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said Thursday.
The employees are represented by the Ohio Association of Public School Employees American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 4, AFL-CIO Local 662.
Expired contract
The union's three-year contract expired Aug. 31.
A new three-year contract for teachers was approved Aug. 29, including a 3-percent raise the first year and 3.25-percent increases the second and third years. A $240 signing bonus will be paid to teachers in the third year.
Budget
Meeting Thursday, the board approved 2003 appropriations of $7.78 million, just over 2 percent higher than this year's budget, Radabaugh said.
The general fund for the new budget will be $4.898 million.
Radabaugh said the increase is due to salaries, benefits and inflation.
The total budget includes $2.093 million in a capital projects fund, which includes portions of Ohio School Facility Commission funds and a local bond issue for extensive renovations at the high school, now nearly complete, and construction of a new elementary school on Seventh Street.
The board, meanwhile, named Louis Domitrovich head track coach. Domitrovich was assistant coach last season.
Carl Eaton will continue as girls head softball coach and Dan Williams as boys basketball coach.
