YOUNGSTOWN Two are hurt in separate shootings
The two South Side shootings happened within 15 minutes of each other.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 23-year-old East Side man was in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center this morning with a gunshot wound to the lower chest.
Darryl Jones of Lilburne Avenue was found lying on his side next to a driveway in the 900 block of Cameron Avenue on the South Side around 12:30 a.m. today, city police reports show.
A 21-year-old woman from the home told officers that Jones is her ex-boyfriend and stays with her at times. She said she was not expecting him and was inside her home with her child when she heard a gunshot. She said she saw him on the ground as a pickup truck drove away.
Another witness said that Jones, the woman and two other men had been fighting and arguing in the front yard of the home when the two men entered a sport-utility vehicle.
One then exited and fired one shot at Jones before they fled, the witness said.
In a second early morning shooting on the South Side, an 18-year-old Warren man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
City police interviewed Jonathan Simmons at Forum Health Northside Medical Center. They said he told them he had been delivering marijuana in the area of Market Street and Woodland Avenue around 12:15 a.m.
His customer, a male teenager, was unhappy with the amount Simmons offered and pulled a gun, police reports show. As the two struggled, Simmons was shot in the thigh. He was in stable condition, reports show.
