THE VINDICATOR, YOUNGSTOWN
HUBBARD -- Four union workers at Metalcrafts on North Main Street Southeast approved a new three-year contract Tuesday, ending a nine-day strike.
Rick Evans, a plant manager, declined to release details of the pact but said workers returned to work Tuesday afternoon.
The four, members of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Local 527, walked out Sept. 9, two days after a contract extension expired.
Workers said pay raises were a sticking point -- employees wanted cost of living raises, while management wanted to continue merit raises. Evans would say only that the two sides reached a compromise on that issue.
Metalcrafts employs 11. Workers produce decorative metal pieces for stairs, railings and other uses. Evans said management was able to continue operations at the plant during the walkout.
