PREP VOLLEYBALL West Branch still perfect in league play

The Warriors took over sole possession of first place in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

CANAL FULTON -- Jen Weingart collected four kills, a block, 11 passes, 10 points, two digs and a save to help the West Branch High volleyball team to a 13-15, 15-11, 15-12 win over Northwest Thursday.

Both teams were ranked in the state and were 5-0 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Samantha Benner added two kills, six blocks and 11 passes while Amber Metzgar had 12 points, seven saves, two kills, three blocks, 10 assists and 20 passes for the Warriors (8-1, 6-0 NBC). Northwest is 7-1, 5-1.

Canton Timken 15-5-15,Wilson 7-15-2

YOUNGSTOWN -- Jessica Martinez scored nine points while Jennifer Karsti collected five points, three kills and three digs for the Redmen (2-5, 1-1 City Series).

Timken is 2-3, 2-0.

Fitch 15-15, Mooney 0-3

YOUNGSTOWN -- Amanda Williamson finished with 11 points, eight kills and three blocks; Katie McDermott had 11 points, three kills and seven aces, while Stacie Mang tacked on eight assists for the Falcons (6-2).

The Cardinals (1-6, 0-2 Steel Valley Conference) were led by Petrina Morocco with nine digs and two blocks and Kara Jackson with 10 digs.

Boardman 15-15,Canton GlenOak 11-12

CANTON -- Jaclyn Corroto had nine points with 11 assists to lead the Spartans (6-1) while Jen Feret added six kills and eight digs.

Jen Hlebovy also collected seven points and seven kills while Lauren Craig had seven kills and seven blocks. GlenOak is 5-4.

Ursuline 15-15, Warren Harding 2-7

YOUNGSTOWN -- Jess LaRosa, Jen Marsco and Lauren Reinhardt paced the Irish (2-5, 1-1 SVC) with six points apiece. Sharina Freeman led the Raiders with seven kill and an ace. Jenna Simon had two assists.

Canfield 15-15, Niles 5-4

NILES -- Kelly Reese scored nine points, with nine assists to pace the Cardinals (5-3, 2-1 Metro Athletic Conference). Jill Vertanen had seven kills. Amanda Furey of the Red Dragons (0-7, 0-3) scored two points, with one block. Erin Swift had three digs.

Poland 15-15, Struthers 10-2

POLAND -- Stephanie Graf scored 15 points, with six kills, two aces and two digs for the Bulldogs (4-1, 3-0 MAC). Dee Muransky had five kills, six points, five aces and five digs. Kristen Spaynard had nine assists and four digs. Jerilyn Walsh led the Wildcats with seven points.

Salem 15-16, Howland 2-14

HOWLAND -- Jill Barry led the Quakers (5-1, 3-0 MAC) with 16 points and five aces. Tiffanie Heestand had five kills and two blocks. Megan Sampson had four assists. Taylor Hendricks had two digs. Jaime Kelly sparked the Tigers (4-4, 1-2) with seven points, one ace, four kills and two blocks. Brittany Kelly had one ace and three digs.

Bronwyn Salo had five assists. Julie Griffin had five saves.

Springfield 15-15,Jackson-Milton 6-7

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Lindsay Johnson led the Tigers (8-3, 5-0 Inter-County League) with 16 kills, seven blocks and a point. Jess Juda scored eight points, two aces and four digs. Meghan Louttit had five points and 23 assists and Carrie Davies had seven points, five kills, an ace and a block.

Shauna Durig paced the Bluejays (2-3, 1-3) with two points, 14 kills, six blocks and 10 digs. Erika Stainm had four points, 42 sets and 24 assists. Ashley Loutzenhiser had two points and five kills.

Mineral Ridge 18-16,Western Reserve 15-5

MINERAL RIDGE -- Carrie Wilson paced the Rams (7-3, 2-3 ICL) with six points, two aces and 12 assists. Doriana Casado had seven kills and three blocks.

Quinn McCammon sparked the Blue Devils (6-4, 5-1) with seven points and one ace. Jen White had 11 blocks and five kills and Katie harmon had 40 assists.

Mathews 18-15-17,Lowellville 20-12-15

LOWELLVILLE -- Lindsey Mizicko led the Mustangs (3-4, 1-3 ICL) with 16 points, seven digs and three aces. Danielle Berry had 39 assists. Jaci Bahrey had six kills.

Danielle Hvisak paced the Rockets (3-5, 0-4) with eight digs. Juli Peterson had five digs. Tami Nero had 18 points and 13 assists. Christa Flora had six kills. Rachel Zimmerman had three kills.

Rayen 9-15-15, Chaney 15-10-6

YOUNGSTOWN -- In a Wednesday match, Taryn Perkins had two kills and Erica Wilson had three aces and 13 points for Rayen.

Lindsay Simstad had four kills and Courtney Williams had four aces for Chaney (1-4, 0-2 City Series). Adrienne Peace had seven points and Angela Armstrong added 15 assists.
