Man tries to scam employee at diner

Published: Sun, September 8, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

COITSVILLE -- Township police are looking for a Youngstown man suspected of trying to scam a worker at a McCartney Road diner.

The worker told police a 31-year-old man came into Mary's Diner at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, asking for a $30 donation to the Fraternal Order of Police, telling her the diner owner had approved the donation. She asked him to return so she could check with the owner.

The man returned and a diner patron recognized him. After he left, the patron told police the man is known as a "troublemaker."
