LAKE MILTON Report of girl left in woods turns out to be false alarm
LAKE MILTON -- Police who were searching for a young girl here Sunday evening have learned that the girl has been safe and with her family since before the search began.
A resident near Duck Creek Road told Milton Township police that two men and a woman took the girl into a wooded lot on the road about 6 p.m. Sunday and later returned without her.
About 11:30 a.m. Monday, police spoke with a real-estate agent trying to sell the lot and learned that he was one of the men.
The other man and the woman are the girl's parents. The girl's grandmother was in a car parked nearby.
The girl's parents brought her into the woods while they were touring the lot with the real-estate agent.
The mother later took the girl back to the car to sit with her grandmother while her husband and the agent toured the lot.
The mother then returned to the lot and continued the tour. The family eventually left together.
Police, police dogs, volunteers and a private helicopter searched the area until about midnight Sunday.
Detective Sgt. Frank Tomaino stressed that police weren't upset that the girl was never missing.
"I don't think you can ever be too careful," Tomaino said.
"We would rather check something out and find there's nothing to it."
