KINSMAN -- The township will celebrate its 200th birthday with a program Sept. 14. The event begins with a parade at 2 p.m., followed by family activities and a closing program of music and dramatic skits in the high school at 7 p.m.
There will be a quilt show from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the high school. The Octagon House, the boyhood home of famed lawyer Clarence Darrow, will be open to visitors.
The area was discovered in 1799 by John Kinsman and his brother-in-law Simon Perkins. Kinsman bought 16,664 acres, and the first settlers arrived in 1802.
Meeting date changed
McDONALD -- The board of education has changed the date of its September meeting from 6 p.m. Sept. 12 to 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the high school.
