Report of lost child prompts police search in Milton Twp.

Published: Mon, September 2, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

LAKE MILTON -- Emergency workers searched a wooded area Sunday night in Milton Township after a witness said a young girl may have been left there by three adults.
Crews searched the area behind 2783 Duck Creek Road, just south of Mahoning Avenue, from 6 to 10 p.m.
Police were waiting for searchers to come in about 10 p.m. before deciding how long to look.
Det. Sgt. Harold Johnson of the Milton Township Police said there were no reports of missing children filed.
A resident reported that two men and a woman took a girl, about 5 or 6 years old, into the woods and then came out later without the girl.
Police did not find the men or woman.
The Milton Township Fire Department organized a 20-person search crew and were added by a private helicopter and the Mahoning Valley Trail Dogs, a Lowellville-based rescue group that uses all-terrain vehicles.
Because of the darkness, the crews also used equipment that detects heat.
A police dog from Austintown searched the area and found a scent, but lost it when it came across some area residents who were walking through the woods.
