Man injured in shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- Charles Green, 24, was in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center on Sunday night after being shot in the head.
Police were called to Ridge Avenue about 4 a.m. Sunday and found Green sitting in a car. A handgun was on the passenger's seat.
Police are investigating. They had no address for Green.
Police seek to ID body
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are trying to identify a body found at 8 a.m. Sunday at a Logan Avenue towing company.
The body of a white man was found in the bed of a pickup truck.
Training for hot line
YOUNGSTOWN -- Help Hotline Crisis Center, the county's "one number" to call for information, referral and crisis intervention, is offering free training classes for people interested in volunteering for the 24-hour hot line.
Classes will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. six consecutive Saturdays beginning Oct. 12. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment.

Entering district race
SHARON, Pa. -- Atty. AnnDrea Benson of Edinboro will launch her bid for the 3rd District's Congressional seat on the Green Party ticket with a tour of the district Tuesday.
Benson will face Republican incumbent Phil English of Erie in the Nov. 5 election.
Benson has worked as a poverty lawyer, a legislative staff person and director of the Democratic Farmer Labor House Caucus staff in Minnesota and as a corporate attorney for 15 years. She is also a volunteer attorney for the Human Relations Commission of Erie County.
One of her five campaign stops Tuesday will be in Bicentennial Park in downtown Sharon at 1:15 p.m.
The tour starts in Erie and includes other stops in Warren, Meadville and Butler.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Northeast Ohio Legal Services is seeking volunteers for its Valu Program.
Volunteers assist victims of domestic violence with the process of obtaining a civil protection order.
Volunteers must complete 16 hours of training and be available twice a month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Training begins Oct. 7. Those interested should contact the Valu office at (330) 742-5857.
Deadline for registration is Sept. 6.
Part of road to close
YOUNGSTOWN -- A section of Valley Drive in Mill Creek park will be closed beginning Sept. 3 for road work.
Access to the Lanterman's Mill parking lot from U.S. Route 62 will be maintained, but the road will be closed north of the parking lot.
The drainage upgrade and paving projects are expected to be completed by mid-October.
Auditor's office's award
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Auditor's Office has received a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The award is presented annually to local governments that publish a comprehensive annual financial report that meets the association's standards.
Appointed to council
COLUMBUS -- Atty. Linda Martin-Saunders of Canfield has been appointed by Gov. Bob Taft to the Ohio Council on Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services.
The 24-member council meets quarterly to review development of statewide plans for alcohol and drug addiction services and acts as an advisory panel to Luceille Fleming, director of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Martin-Saunders is assistant prosecutor of the Mahoning County Common Pleas Drug Court.
