The following people were sentenced in Mercer County Common Pleas Court recently:
Lamar Wilder, 22, of Fruit Avenue, Farrell, was sentenced to one to two years for misdemeanor simple assault and declared him boot-camp eligible. He was given credit for 24 days served. Wilder struck a man in the face severely enough to cause bleeding while another man held a gun on the victim. The assault took place Feb. 19 on Negley Street, Farrell.
Peter Slusar, 49, of Quay Street, East Vandergrift, was sentenced to 11/2 to five years and fined $300 for a fourth offense of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was also fined $1,000 and sentenced to a concurrent 90-day term for driving under suspension. Slusar was arrested Nov. 19, 2000, in Jackson Township, going 83 in a 55 mile-per-hour zone. The speeding charge was dropped as part of a plea bargain. He was given 18 days credit for time served.
Stephen Crossland, 20, of Second Street, Greenville, who was ordered to pay $3,800 restitution and to perform 50 hours' community service for forgery, a misdemeanor. He was also placed on one year's probation. Crossland presented two forged checks totaling $3,800 for payment at a bank on Feb. 13, 2001.
Karen Miller, 50, of Hawthorne Drive, Brookfield, was placed on one year's probation and ordered to perform 25 hours' community service for felony retail theft for stealing $47 worth of cosmetics and groceries July 13, 1999, from Giant Eagle in Hermitage.
Ruth Morocco, 42, Oakleaf Estates, West Middlesex, was sentenced to 85 days to 23 months in jail for misdemeanor retail theft for conspiring with another woman to steal $618 in merchandise from Wal-Mart in Hermitage.
Londaya Nelson, 23, of Pittsburgh, was placed on 18 months' probation for misdemeanor retail theft for stealing two pairs of shoes valued at a total of $60 from Casual Corner at Grove City Outlets on Sept. 16, 2001.
Shayne Ryhal, 23, of Rear Franklin Avenue, New Castle. Placed on one year's probation, ordered to pay $70 restitution and ordered to perform 50 hours' community service for misdemeanor receiving stolen property for possessing a stolen sport utility vehicle Dec. 3, 2001.
Robin Swartz, 36, of Nych Road, New Wilmington. Fined $250 for a misdemeanor count of sale/lease of weapons for selling a 17-year-old boy a semi-automatic handgun April 6, 2001. The sale took place at Swartz home.
Derrick Talbert, 25, of Park Drive, Hermitage. Sentenced to 106 days to 18 months in jail, then placed on one year's probation for felony delivery of a controlled substance. He sold 0.26 grams of cocaine to an undercover agent Oct. 15, 2001, at a Wallis Avenue, Farrell, address. He was also ordered to pay $110 in restitution and ordered to perform 15 hours' community service per week.
Matt Wiseman, 23, of Warren-Sharon Road, Masury. Placed on one year's probation for misdemeanor simple assault for striking and shoving a man while stealing the victim's cell phone Jan. 8. The victim suffered a bruised face and head and an injured leg. The attack occurred on Russell Street in Sharon.
Jeffrey Oatis, 40, of Wallis Avenue, Farrell. Ninety days in jail followed by nine months' probation for resisting arrest and possessing cocaine, both misdemeanors.
