Published: Sun, September 1, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Cardinal Mooney scored the go-ahead touchdown with nine seconds remaining to defeat Shaker Heights, 26-21, Friday.

Junior quarterback Ron Stoops pulled the Cards (1-1) within 7-6 with an 11-yard TD jaunt before halftime.

Junior fullback Bob McCabe's 2-yard touchdown kept Mooney close at 14-12, but Shaker Heights went up, 21-12.

Ron Stoops' 24-yard pass to senior Gino Donatelli with 3:45 remaining made the score 21-18 and Dustin Hinkle's PAT brought the Cards within 21-19.

Mooney recovered its onside kick and began the march that ended in Stoops' game-winning run from 10 yards out. Hinkle, a junior, completed the scoring with his point-after try.

Stoops, McCabe, and senior tailback Patsy Malie combined for 275 of Mooney's 300 yards.

The Cards had a 22-11 advantage in first downs while holding Shaker Heights (1-1) to 74 on the ground and 60 in the air.
