Air Force Academy
Lucas M. Moore has entered the five- to six-week basic cadet training at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Col., in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy.
Moore is the son of Jonathan Moore of Boardman, and grandson of Mary Moore of Struthers. He is a 2002 graduate of Struthers High School.
Chad S. Hendrickson has graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Md., and received a medical degree and was commissioned to the rank of captain, with a minimum seven-year active duty service commitment.
The university is a tuition-free institution which manages a graduate nursing school, a graduate school with doctor of philosophy and master's degree programs, and a medical school for the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Hendrickson is the son of Robert L. Hendrickson of Espyville, Pa., and Dawn L. Gibson of New Wilmington, Pa.
His wife, Nicole, is the daughter of Ronald and Sandra Black of New Wilmington.
He graduated in 1991 from Wilmington Area High School, Pa.; received his bachelor's degree in 1996 from Gannon University, Erie, Pa.; and his master's degree in 1998 from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
Air Force sergeant
Air Force Staff Sgt. Michael J. Klemm was promoted to his present rank while assigned as a structural journeyman with the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.
He is the son of Kathy A. Smart of Warren and Robert C. Klemm of Newton Falls.
His wife, Elizabeth, is the daughter of Gerald and Elizabeth A. Lang of West Farmington. Klemm is a 1995 graduate of Champion High School.
Sergeant Morales Club
Army Sgt. 1st Class James D. Utt was inducted into the Sergeant Morales Club, an elite organization restricted to noncommissioned officers who personify the highest standards of military leadership, mission accomplishment and care of the soldier.
Utt is assigned to the 527th Military Police Company at the Giessen Depot, Germany.
He is the son of Dariel and Terri Utt of Salineville and is a 1985 graduate of Southern Local High School.
Deployed to Spain
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Brian K. Miller, son of Paulette N. Gillette of East Liverpool, is on a six-month deployment to Rota, Spain, while assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven, home-based in Gulfport, Miss.
The battalion joined Joint Task Force 160 at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and supported Exercise Rescuer Medceur '02 in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
Miller is a 1986 graduate of Beaver Local High School of Lisbon and joined the Navy in April 1987.
