An early labor day

An early labor day

CANFIELD -- A woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance Friday night after she went into labor in the Canfield Fair grandstand. Fair Police Chief Billy Arnaut said the woman went into labor as the 10 p.m. daredevil show began. He did not have her name. Arnaut noted, however, that the child was later delivered and the woman and the child are fine.

Medical treatment

CANFIELD -- Red Cross workers have handled a total of 171 medical cases so far at this year's fair. The cases included treatment for 23 cuts, 20 bee stings, 19 blisters and six injuries caused by animals. Three people also have been taken from the fair to the hospital after suffering chest or abdominal pain.

Show of patriotism

CANFIELD -- A total of 77 crafts were entered in the red, white and blue craft contest at this year's fair. Fair Board Member Kathy Bennett said the contest was created in response to the increase in patriotism in the country during the last year. She added that the board changes some of the craft contests each year, "to keep it interesting." One of next year's contests will include crafts based on Ohio's bicentennial.
