My Vitriol, & quot;Finelines & quot; (Epic Records)
File under: Nonwimpy Brit pop. Sounds like: Foo Fighters meet the Smashing Pumpkins. The lowdown: We love those thoughtful U.K. bands like Travis and Coldplay, but they're better to mope to than mosh to. My Vitriol, featuring Sri Lankan-born singer Som Wardner and cool-chick bassist Carolyn Bannister, gives you both options with its lush, sprawling soundscapes that slowly hypnotize, and noisy guitar-driven blasts that hook you in five seconds flat. It seems that England has finally tossed to our shores a band that won't wow only snobby critics. My Vitriol will rock fans looking for a group that delivers an instant adrenaline rush.
