BASEBALL

Little "b"

Lazart 8, Wolf Construction 0 -- Matt Lutz had three hits with two home runs, while Jeremy Hartman pitched a three-hit shutout. Bob Melnek also added two hits.

Lazart 11, Youngstown Propane 8 -- Chad Baker led the way with three hits and Matt Lutz added a pair, while Zach Horvath pitched the win.

Babe Ruth (age 14-15)

Sluggers 13, Campbell 3 -- Tyler Stanley struck out 10 in four innings and Lou Kopachy hit a three-run triple. Dave Piersante's three hits included a double. Brad Blevins, Adam Miller, and Greg Sansone each had two hits apiece.

Line Drive 7, Sluggers 0 -- Grant Sevek went the distance for the shutout. Dom Modarelli had a single, double, and a triple while John Foty had two hits. For Sluggers, Dave Piersante and Jim Gromada each had two hits.

Central Optical 9, Astros 7 -- Joe Irwin had a triple and Dan Babyak, Anthony Porter, and Dan McCloud had key hits for the win.

Belleria Pizza 4, Sluggers 2 -- Tyler Yeager pitched five shutout innings while Justin Herberger singled and doubled. For Sluggers, Brett Grabman had a two-run double.

ESK 7, Commercial Neon 4 -- Jimmy Kreibel went 3 for 4 with two doubles and Matt Backes pitched a complete game with 6 strikeouts.

ESK 7, Central Optical 3 -- Jimmy Kreibel hit a grand slam home run and Kevin Sikora struck out five in four innings for the mound win. Central's Andy Allen went 2 for 2.

Babe Ruth (Age 15)

Line Drive 10, Storm 0 -- Jared Bartholomew and Mike Bartos combined on the shutout.

Canfield Anthem Blue Cross 6, Springfield 3

SOFTBALL

Raging Thunder -- 16U went undefeated (4-0) in pool and elimination play, outscoring opponents 29-8 before losing to the Sandusky Lady Lasers Orange in the championship round at the Memorial Day PONY National Qualifier. In pool play, Raging Thunder defeated the Lancaster Phoenix 3-2, the Cambridge Road Runners 12-5 and Valley Sting 9-1. Home runs by Kelly Houghton, Kim Moore and Heidi Cooper led the charge. Moore followed up with another Home run in elimination play leading the team to its 5-1 victory over the Lancaster Phoenix to set up the championship game.

Valley Sting -- Green finished second in the Raging Thunder Memorial Day PONY National Qualifier in 12u, Black was runner-up in 14u, and Valley Sting was third in 16u.
