Aviles returns to Niles

Willie Aviles, who served as coach during the 1999 and 2000 Pinckney-Stedler Division championship seasons, will return in the same capacity this season to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers under manager Chris Bando. C3.

Turocy powers Canfield

Megan Turocy scattered seven hits and struck out 11 Fitch batters to lead Canfield to a 7-1 softball victory. C5.

Kings ponder lineup

At the same time Sacramento regained control of its Western Conference semifinal against the Dallas Mavericks, Kings coach Rick Adelman had to start thinking of ways to reshuffle his lineup without Peja Stojakovic. C7.

Burton takes LPGA lead

Brandie Burton, working her way back from her third shoulder surgery, shot a 3-under 69 Friday to take a one-stroke lead over Annika Sorenstam in the suspended second round of the Aerus Electrolux USA Championship. C6.

Rookie grabs Busch pole

Rookie Shane Hmiel won the pole Friday for the Busch 200, and gave a passing grade to the new widened turns at New Hampshire International Speedway. C6.
