STRAY-CHIP SCAM

Published: Sun, May 5, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

STRAY-CHIP SCAM

Tip of the month

A favorite ruse used by casino thieves is to toss a gambling chip at the feet of a gambler at a slot machine or a table game and then point out the stray chip to the target.

When the intended victim bends to pick up the chip, a confederate reaches for the unsuspecting person's bucket of coins or stack of chips.

So if a seemingly friendly stranger points out that wayward chip on the floor, think twice before taking your eye off your own money.
