Orthodox Easter services

YOUNGSTOWN -- Sts. Peter & amp; Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church is celebrating the Orthodox Easter. Events include: Meditation and prayer at the church, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; blessing of baskets, 5 p.m., both today. Procession and Paschal Matins and Divine Liturgy, 7 a.m. Sunday. Divine Liturgy, 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Memorial service

YOUNGSTOWN -- There will be a service honoring the late Rev. Joe Bankston and first lady Dorothy Bankston at 4 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church. Area pastors and musicians will take part.

Papal biography to air

YOUNGSTOWN -- "Witness to Hope: The Life of Karol Wojtyla, Pope John Paul II" will air at 8 p.m. May 14 on PBS Channels 45 & amp; 49. The new two-hour biography will be spread over a three-hour period during the station's fund drive, according to station spokeswoman Lisa Martinez.

The film is based on the book with the same title by George Weigel. The author met privately with the pope for more than 20 hours in creating the book. Martinez said the biography is more comprehensive than previous films about the pope.

Singles ministry events

NILES -- The Single Adult Ministry is having a series of events that include:

ULunch at Yamato's Japanese Restaurant in Niles, 1 p.m. Sunday.

UA version of the board game "Clue" using real people at 7 p.m. next Saturday at New Life Assembly of God in Poland.

UA day trip to Niagara Falls, leaving Pleasant Valley Church at 7:30 p.m. May 18.

UMiniature golf at 4 p.m. May 25 at the Lakefront course in Columbiana.

UA coffeehouse at the Warren Family Mission at 7 p.m. May 25. Contemporary Christian singer Sonny Cashbaugh will perform.

UMemorial Day picnic from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 27 at Woodland Park in McDonald.

Benefit carnation sale

YOUNGSTOWN -- Leaders at St. Christine Church will sell carnations for $1 each after each Mass next Saturday and May 12. It will be the seventh year the church has sold carnations to raise awareness of domestic violence. Proceeds will go to the Sojourner House.

Ordination rite

LATROBE, Pa. -- Seminarian G. David Weikart was ordained to the diaconate April 20 at the St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica.

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown was the ordaining bishop. Weikart is a 1981 graduate of Leetonia High School.

Divorce recovery

CORTLAND -- "DivorceCare" a 13-week recovery program, will start at 7 p.m. Monday at Cortland Trinity Baptist Church. A $50 fee covers registration and a workbook, but financial help is available. Call (330) 637-1421.

Group to perform

CARROLLTON -- The Journeymen from Shepherdsville, Ky., will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Carrollton Bible Chapel. An offering will be taken.

Biblical economics

MAYSVILLE, Pa. -- There will be a discussion of biblical economics at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 p.m. Monday at 21 S. Maysville Road. The talk is sponsored by Living Word Christian Center.

Bus trip offered
