Mahoning County resident wins prize in Mega Millions
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Mahoning County resident is the latest winner of a second-tier prize in Mega Millions, the Ohio Lottery's newest game.
Donald M. Morgan of Youngstown correctly matched all five white balls in the Mega Millions drawing Friday, winning $175,000, the second highest prize that can be won in the game. He filed a claim Monday morning in the Youngstown Regional Office.
Morgan used the auto pick feature. The winning numbers were 14-22-27-28-42.
After mandatory 27 percent federal and 3.5 percent state tax withholdings, Morgan will receive a one-time check for $121,625.
The winning ticket was sold at Save-A-Step, 31 Canfield Niles Road, Austintown. Save-A-Step will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Mega Millions, a multistate lotto game now played in nine states, went on sale in Ohio on May 17. Tickets, which cost $1 per play, are also sold in Illinois, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia and Georgia.
The game offers nine chances to win a prize.
Friday's jackpot was $21 million. No winning ticket matching all six numbers was sold. Mega Millions drawings are conducted each Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. from Atlanta, Ga.
In Ohio, the drawing can be watched live on cable channel WFN from Chicago. Today's jackpot will be at least $27 million.
