Warren school board OKs chief's contract

WARREN -- Delighted, happy and very pleased were descriptions board members gave of their feelings about the contract renewal of Superintendent Betty J. English.
English, who was named to the district helm in November 1999, will remain in that spot for three more years under a contract school board members approved Tuesday.
"I'm very relieved to secure Betty's services for another three years," board president Dr. Robert Angelo said.
"And I'm flattered," English said.
The new contract, which runs through July 2005, calls for English to earn $97,501 for the 2002-03 school year. The salary for subsequent years will be determined based on evaluation, board members said.
Before being named superintendent three years ago, English previously worked as the district associate superintendent. She also worked at University School in Hunting Valley, Ohio, was assistant dean of the College of Education at Cleveland State University and had several positions in the Cleveland City Schools before coming to Warren.
The district's literacy project and technology program started during English's time with the district.
