GIRLS LITTLE LEAGUE Canfield shuts out Kentucky in regional tournament game

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Canfield's 11-12 Little League girls fast pitch softball team shut out the Kentucky State champs 12-0 in four innings Tuesday in a regional tournament.
Tricia Bettura keyed the Canfield offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs. Kristen Stahl added two RBIs with a double, and Courtney Rothbauer, Lauren Sulick and Melissa West each added an RBI.
The top two hitters in the Canfield batting order, sisters Jillian and Bebe Halfhill, combined to steal four bases.
Pitchers Bettura and Brittany Danilov combined to throw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts against the Kentucky squad.
Canfield will resume play today at 8:30 p.m. against the Missouri state champions.
Poland 9-10s
POLAND -- The Poland fast pitch softball team of 9-10 year olds will compete in the Little League state tournament Aug. 2-8 in Kenton. Poland advanced after winning the District 2 tournament.
Members of the team are Abbey Benson, Jamie Clausen, Jessica D'Apolito, Victoria Farris, Macy Ucchino, Margo Ucchino, Nicole White, Jenna Kazmierczak, Molly Martino, Jenna Modic, Jordan Palumbo and Alexys Shields.
The team is coached by Lou Palumbo, Ron D'Apolito, Brent Modic and Ron Martino.
