Mustang Car Show

ERIE, Pa. -- The Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club is holding its fourth annual Mustang Car Show on Aug. 4.

Ford Mustangs from the area will be on display. Prizes will be awarded for the top three cars in each of nine categories, separated by age.

The show will be at the Sears Tire and Auto Center at 800 Millcreek Mall.

Pre-registration for cars is $10. Registration from 9 a.m. to noon on the day of the event is $12, with proceeds to benefit the Greater Erie Area Habitat for Humanity.

Concert in square

MERCER, Pa. -- The Youngstown Community Band under the direction of Joseph Pelligrini will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, on the Mercer Courthouse Square. The evening will feature Broadway tunes, marches and overtures.

The Fred Boles Quintet begins the program at 6:30.

The Children's Aid Society of Mercer County will host an old-fashioned ice cream social from 6 to 9 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be in Mercer High School auditorium, a block away.

Democrats' convention

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County District Attorney Matthew Mangino will join more than 300 elected officials from across the country for the Democratic Leadership Council 2002 National Conversation in New York City today through Tuesday. Now in its sixth year, the 2002 National Conversation will be the premier meeting of New Democratselected this year. The theme is "leadership in the national interest" with speeches, panel discussions and strategic meetings focused on how New Democrats can take the lead in advancing a national agenda that emphasizes security, opportunity and responsibility.

Traficant interview

YOUNGSTOWN -- An exclusive, live and unscripted interview with James A. Traficant Jr. will air at 7 p.m. Monday on WFMJ-TV, Channel 21.

The interview by news anchor Bob Black is the night before Traficant is to be sentenced on racketeering charges Tuesday in federal court in Cleveland.

Italian 5K race

WARREN -- The Italian Pizza Splash leaves the starting line at the Trumbull County Courthouse at 7 p.m. Aug. 9. The 18th annual 5K race is held in conjunction with the city's Italian American Heritage Festival.

Entry forms are available at the YMCA, Footlocker in Eastwood Mall, Second Sole in Boardman, Advanced Eye Care or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Ted Rupe, 2533 Davis Peck Road, Cortland 44410.

Runners also can register from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on race day at the gazebo on Courthouse Square.

Fatal crash info sought

ASHTABULA -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is requesting information from anyone who may have seen a fatal truck crash about 11:50 p.m. Monday on state Route 11, north of U.S. Route 6 in New Lyme Township. The patrol said a tractor-trailer was southbound on Route 11 when it crashed. Anyone with information should call the Ashtabula patrol post at (440) 969-1155.
