Book sale is setat library in Warren
WARREN -- Friends of the Warren Library will hold a book sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4 at the main branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library.
The library will be closed to accommodate the sale.
Warren ward meeting
WARREN -- Councilman Alford L. Novak, D-2nd, will conduct a ward meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the shelter house at Packard Park. Representatives of Sunshine Homes are expected to attend and bring information and maps explaining the home rehabilitation program that will be done in the 2nd and 4th wards. The meeting also will include discussion about a proposed bike trail in the city and the Safe Streets Now program.
Scrap tire collection
WEATHERSFIELD -- Weathersfield Township is sponsoring two scrap tire collections.
The first one will be Aug. 5 in Mineral Ridge, Oakview and Hilltop.
The second will be Aug. 12 in the Deforest, West Park and Austintown areas.
The rims should be removed and the tires must be placed at the curb. There is a limit of four tires per household.
Pizza race to begin
WARREN -- The Italian Pizza Splash leaves the starting line at the Trumbull County Courthouse at 7 p.m. Aug. 9.
The 18th annual 5K race is held in conjunction with the city's Italian American Heritage Festival.
Awards go to the top three overall winners in the male and female categories and the top three in each of the 11 male and 10 female age groups.
Entry forms are available at the YMCA, Footlocker in Eastwood Mall, Second Sole in Boardman, Advanced Eye Care or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Ted Rupe, 2533 Davis Peck Road, Cortland 44410.
Runners also can register from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on race day at the gazebo on Courthouse Square.
Wanted: crash witness
ASHTABULA -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is requesting information from anyone who may have seen a fatal truck crash about 11:50 p.m. Monday on state Route 11, north of U.S. Route 6 in New Lyme Township.
The patrol said Gregory R. Holcomb, 48, of Albion, Pa., was southbound on Route 11 in a Freightliner tractor-trailer when he crashed.
Troopers are unsure what caused the truck to leave the road. It hit several trees and burst into flames. Holcomb was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone with information should call the Ashtabula patrol post at (440) 969-1155.
Concert in square
MERCER, Pa. -- The Youngstown Community Band under the direction of Joseph Pelligrini will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, on the Mercer Courthouse Square. The evening will feature Broadway tunes, marches and overtures.
The Fred Boles Quintet begins the program at 6:30.
The Children's Aid Society of Mercer County will host an old-fashioned ice cream social from 6 to 9 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be in Mercer High School auditorium, a block away.
