GIRARD -- The board of education approved a three-year contract Wednesday with 40 nonteaching employees, members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees/Ohio Associated of Public School Employees Local 425.
The contract, effective July 1, calls for a 2 percent pay increase the first year and 3 percent in each of the second and third years. The union ratified the contract Monday.
Pay for a custodian with five to nine years' experience goes from $29,952 to $32,411 annually by the third year of the contract. A secretary with the same amount of experience and paid $18,978 will be paid $20,536 the third year.
The board hired Delores Graham, who has taught for two years at Upper Sandusky High School, as a ninth-grade English teacher; Heather Courtney Salapata as assistant girls soccer coach; Jeff Walters, junior varsity girls volleyball coach; and Theresa Bojadich, assistant band director.
It accepted the resignation of Daniel N. Nestich as assistant band director and hired Jennifer Keagy to coordinate the Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program at $23,140 annually.
