CANFIELD -- Jessica Nichole Cecilia Mulichak, 19, is this year's Miss Italian Youngstown. The 2002 Boardman High School graduate was crowned Thursday at the Greater Youngstown Italian Fest Pageant. Eleven contestants participated and were judged on evening wear, a discussion of their Italian heritage and a talent presentation. Mulichak performed a viola solo of the "Ave Maria," accompanied by Jimmy Johnston on piano.
At Boardman High, she was president of the Italian club, co-president of the Italian honor society, recipient of the 2002 NOI Foundation Scholarship and this year's Outstanding Italian Student.
She plans to attend Youngstown State University, majoring in Italian.
Dayna Renee Despetorich was first runner-up, singing "Mambo Italiano," and Vanessa Gamma Ferranto was second runner-up, performing the song "Ave Maria."
