Shots fired at house
YOUNGSTOWN -- While a family was upstairs sleeping, their house was shot at five times in the 200 block of Carroll Street.
When the homeowner came downstairs after hearing shots Friday morning, she discovered three bullet holes in windows and two in walls. The woman named two possible suspects who she said were involved in an altercation with her son.
Officers found four spent 9mm shell casings on the street in front of the house.
Officer finds baby alone
YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman was arrested Friday after police found an abandoned baby soaked in its own sweat in a room with several lighted candles in her house at 258 Hollywood Ave.Nina Mitchell, 21, was charged with child endangerment. Police, responding to a call from a neighbor, got no response after knocking on the front door.
An officer then walked to the back of the house and, looking through a window, saw a baby alone in a playpen.
Concerned about the child's welfare, the officer went into the house through an open window.
Police said the baby suffered chills when an officer removed it from the house.
After an ambulance came, the child's mother arrived at the residence with her 3-year-old son. The woman said she left the baby alone because she was "out looking at houses."
The children were transported to Northside Medical Center.
Sports card show
NILES -- A sports card and collectibles show will be at Eastwood Mall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Dwight White, a defensive linemen for the Pittsburgh Steelers' championship teams of the 1970s, will sign autographs Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost of the autograph is $10.
